Back in 2002, I decided I needed a new career. I’ve been in the same field for 20 years and was getting burned out, big time. I’ve always been interested in the computer graphics field, or rather, computer animation. Back when I was 18 (1984) the computer animation field was archaic and I knew that if I chose that field I would slit my wrists. I’m not the most patient person in the world and back then it took forever to make anything with computer animation.

Fast forward to 2002. My local college was offering a few computer graphic programs and I decided to go back to school. It’s been a long four years but I finally graduated in May 2006 with my Associates Degree. I’ve also decided to sell the house and move to the Orlando area in hopes of more opportunity in the computer animation field.

I actually can’t believe I’m making all these big decisions and still have my sanity. It’s been stressful but it’s something great to look forward to. One of my best friends lives in Orlando and is in the film industry so the transition will be easy, I hope.

I will miss the Philadelphia area terribly. I’ve lived in Jersey almost my whole life. I love the fact that Philadelphia is pretty central to New York City, D.C., and Virginia Beach. There is also so much history to be seen. Whenever someone decides to talk trash about Philly or Jersey I’m like a commercial and give all the best features of both places. They should pay me for my commercial like advertisements.

I will be putting the house up for sale in a couple of weeks and hopefully it will sell quickly and away I will be. I’m very excited but scared to death at the same time. I think it’s harder making all these decisions and making sure everything is in order by myself. Sometimes I wish there was a significant other to help ease the burden.

If anyone wants a place to stay while they’re visiting Mickey, give me a shout.

    Hi Teri–
Thought I’d swing by and say “Hi”… but it looks like Bon Voyage and God Speed are more appropriate!

    Wow… a new life!

I agree Philly is nice. I have a good friend in PA.

Let me know if you find an area in Orlando that doesn’t resemble Cul-de-Sac!

  2. Teri said,

thanks dr. mom. I will keep everyone up to date on the cul-de-sac situation if need be. and i always thought it would be cool to live on one. who knew?

Maybe you should look up William in ORL. Nice airport. I have not seen William work with animation but he is good with Sidewalk Chalk

That’s great! I wish you the best of luck and happiness in FL. You’ll still blog though, right?

  5. Teri said,

Lori: still doing the blog, I might even keep my Jersey/Phila signage up.

William’s Brother: William would think I was stalking him and the family and Lauren would knock me upside the head, who needs that? I like their airport as well, very easy to get around. And I’m sure William is the bomb with the sidewalk chalk but I think he’s banned from using it in public considering some of the pictures he draws.

  6. WILLIAM said,

MY sidewalk chalk is always tastefull. LEt me know when you get settled. Also who do you know in the film industry down here? Not that I know anyone but I am curious.

Whoa bummer, I just meet another Philly blogger and off you go. Well have fun, I’ll keep readin’ anyway.

Mainline Mom: My heart will always be a Jersey/Philly girl. My best friend still lives in Collingswood, NJ and I still have family that live not far from me now, so I’ll be around.

Sure, she SAYS she’ll keep reading, but……

I know Dick, there is no loyalty left in the world.

Best of luck Teri, I hope you love it and are successful. As a fellow displaced Philadelphia native I can assure you you can take the girl out of Philly but you can’t take Philly out of the girl!

  12. Teri said,

Amen to that Stepblog. thanks for the kind words.

i’m going to philly in the fall and see that Mutter Museum with the world’s largest colon. YAY!

  14. Teri said,

That seems like a freaky place. have fun with the colon. I’m sure you will. will you be bringing Doodle?

  15. Dick Small said,

Another thing that can abruptly change your career path is a prison sentence. Believe me, I know.

  16. Teri said,

Dick, let’s hope it NEVER comes to that. I’m actually surprised you can still show your face in public. or do you just give them a big smile and it’s all better?

  17. newbluebaby said,

Best of luck Teri. I am a displaced Philadelphian as well and try to get back every chance I get. It’s better than New York but alas, pays better.

  18. newbluebaby said,

… er… actually New York pays better.

    Anyway… good luck!

  19. Teri said,

newbluebaby, doesn’t NYC pay better because the cost of living is outrageous? also, I think the city wage tax is no where near the amount of Philly. It’s the highest in the country.
