Guns
The Second Amendment says:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
What does this mean to you?
Here is my definition:
This Amendment was created over 200 years ago, by people protecting their new, soon to be country. They did NOT have an Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines. They only had each other to protect themselves from the enemy which happened to be another country. They had to protect themselves from Indians and others who would harm them. There were no police departments, SWAT teams, ambulance teams or hospitals. They had to pretty much do it all themselves. So YES, I believe this statement is absolutely true for that time period.
Fast forward over 200 years and we have all these amenities. We have the armed forces to protect our country and people, we have police and SWAT to protect the local people, we have hospitals, government, etc. for protection and help. We have free states, we are free people, for the most part.
Therefore, I firmly believe that we should not have guns. Supposedly, the crime rate in other countries, like England are next to nothing or don’t even exist. These people don’t own guns. I really hate when people quote the 2nd Amendment like it’s our God given right to own a gun. Why don’t they just say, “I want a gun to protect my family”? Unfortunately, most of the people who have guns want to protect themselves, harm others and basically have their ego inflated by this fact.
Personally, I hope to never own a gun. I’ve held a gun and even shot one at a range but I don’t like them and I would never want one in my house. I get too nervous about something going wrong with having this gun.
Therefore, when the Supreme Court came back with their overturning of the ban on guns, I had mixed emotions. In the long run, I’m glad they overturned it because I think we should all have that choice.
I choose not to have one but I don’t want to have my choice taken away. That is what our country is about or so I would like to believe. Choice!

Tina, this is was scares the hell out of me. People are freakin crazy these days. There are many times I’m glad I don’t own a gun when something happens that pisses me off so bad that I have to go cool down. Some people who have guns think “I’ll just shoot them”. I’ve seen it around here too many times, especially for such stupid reasons.
For example, one guy shot a kid this winter because the kid threw a snowball at him. It snowed! All the kids were throwing snowballs! WTF! And the kid was killed from this.
The people who choose to educate themselves and their families regarding guns, I have no problem with. It’s the complete and utter idiots, that are mostly adults, that I can’t stand.

Yes, people are freaking crazy these days; all the more reason to be able to carry a registered weapon. Having a permit to carry a concealed weapon SHOULD require training and testing. It is still against the law to carry a concealed weapon without a permit or the gun being registered, but if a crazy opens up in a restaurant or bus or train, I hope someone has a gun to take him/her out before too much damage is done. As for my house, I believe everyone should be REQUIRED to have a weapon on the property. There is a city here in Georgia (Kennesaw) that has a law that every home must have a gun. It’s not a law that is enforced, but the crime rate is lower in Kennesaw than the surrounding cities. I just want to be able to decide for myself what and how I want to protect my home and family.

I heard an interesting statistic awhile back. There is now enough guns out there for every man, women, and child in the US to have one. So if we ban them now, it is already too late. I say educate people more about them.

My family is Native American and has a cultural history of using firearms for hunting. To this day, they still do it, TO FEED THEIR FAMILIES!
Hubs’ family has a lot of professional shooters. His brother has state titles and records for sharpshooting.They enjoy the SPORT!
Neither of these families would ever dream of not keeping their weapons locked up. Our kids are educated from an early age in the proper use of firearms. They are also taught to leave the room and be a big fat tattletale when anyone is not hunting or engaged in competition.
BTW- we are all in favor of strict gun laws,registrations and restrictions.

I don’t like guns, however, that being said, I believe firmly that we should have the right to bear arms. Teach your kids about guns, don’t have them too easily accessible. Have strict registration, laws and restrictions as metalmom said. But, don’t take away the right and choice to defend our families if need be and hunt if you choose to.

Since I have the neighbor form hell who fires his assault weapons all day long, I am changing my views of gun laws. Perhaps one handgun would be alright, but the average American doesn’t need a gun that fires hundreds of rounds at once like he shoots. That scares me.

Cat, I’m with you on that one. I think assault rifles should be banned. This is NO reason the average person should have this type of gun. Now if you were on the SWAT team, that’s a different story but still, they shouldn’t be firing the gun so close to houses.

I enjoy target shooting for sport. I keep my pistol locked in a small pistol safe, with another trigger lock, just in case. And the ammo is in a completely different area.
I bought a metal locking case for my shotgun since I don’t have a cabinet to keep it in. But I have no shotgun shells in the house anyway.
I’m very happy with the Courts decision in this case.
If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

I don’t mind people having guns, I mind stupid people having guns.
That being said, I see no reason why we should not educate, test and license gun owners. We must do this if we want to drive a car, the primary purpose of which is not to kill, but it is dangerous in the wrong hands nonetheless.
Guns may not kill people, but people with guns do.

The right to bear arms was not included in Bill of rights to protect the people from another country. The Revloutionary War ended in 1783. the Constitution was ratified in 1785 or may 1786. but after the war. The right to bear arms is the second amendment becaue the people wanted to protect themselves fromn their own government. The original Govt. of the 13 colonies was England and england said you can’t have guns and that isone of the reasons for the Revloutionary war. People wanted to protect thier homes from the govt. The right for each state to have it’s own militia. Th US is 50 small countries that make up one large country. That “states want to protect themselves from the Fed govt.
regardless of how you feel about the 2nd amendment it is still part of the Bil of Rights. Just like Fredom of Speech. do you want that taken away? Or the right to Vote? do you want that taken away? I do not own a gun but I suppor the second amendment just like I would for freedom of the press or freedom of religion.I support the right to a speedy trial. I support the right to stop illegal search and seizures….They are all guaranteed by law.

I have chosen not to own a handgun mainly because I can’t hit the side of a barn with one, no matter how hard I try. I do own a couple of rifles and a shotgun. I enjoy target shooting as a sport and will hunt varmints and feral pigs as pest control when needs be. I would prefer not to shoot a person but anyone breaking into my home when it is obvious that someone is there is looking to harm me and my family and I will shoot them. I will feel bad about it later but I would do it.
