The art continues….

February 2, 2008 at 7:08 pm (Julian Beever, Philly stuff)

Nobody sent me a great dvd on Julian Beever and his art. The thing that perplexes me is how did I miss this guy when he was in Philly last year. His PR people did a lousy job making sure the people of Philly knew that this man was in town, and right across the street from my building, making sidewalk art just in time for the 4th of July. He was on the other side of City Hall though, and out of my viewing range, so that could account for some of the lack of knowledge. (click to enlarge).

He even spoke of, and took a tour of, Philly and its many murals, etc. I’m really learning that I love the murals of Philly and the different art that you won’t see in galleries, except in photos.

He then went back to London and spoke of Banksy to some of the people and even some cops who might have been a threat to his art. Banksy does some cool stuff on the walls of London. Beever does some incredible stuff as well, in a different form. I loath the London police though for considering any of this stuff “graffiti”. Are they crazy? They obviously are.
Thanks again, Nobody. I really enjoyed watching. Now I need that damn channel….

I probably have more episodes on DVR to watch. I think I’m dropping that channel though, it costs me an extra $10/mo to get the VOOM HD channels, and that program is the only thing I’ve watched in the year that I’ve had VOOM. The DVD doesn’t do the show justice, it’s spectacular in High Def.

As a fan of the architechural details, I absolutely LOVE the enlargement of City Hall! (Thanks!)

I vaguely remember when this happened, but for some reason, I didn’t pay much attention when it was going on.

Spring is coming-when are we mural viewing again?

Mr. Small – what don’t you get?

Metalmom – You can take a tour of City Hall, you know? It’s a great tour and magnificant building. Anytime you want to take another mural tour, let me know. There are other parts of the city that we need to hit.

I love murals. The city where I live only has nasty gang grafitti. However there is a photographer locally that is attempting to photographer all the old advertisments on the buildings in the city before the buildings are torn down. Some of the ads are a form of art. The ads tella story too.
